About National Fire Service College

National Fire Service College, a premier institute of excellence, has been playing a significant role in shaping fire, emergency and rescue services sector of the nation. After India's independence, the upgrading and modernization of the country required proper training of fire personnel for an integrated fire service. To meet the training needs of fire service organizations, the National Fire Service College was first established in 1956 in Rampur district of Uttar Pradesh by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India. A year later, in July 1957, it was shifted to Nagpur and equipped with better residential and training facilities, as per the demand of the time.

The College regularly imparts training to the Fire Service personnel working in Fire Service Organizations of States/UTs governments, PSUs and Autonomous Government Bodies across nation through professional courses such as Divisional Officers’ Course, Station Officers’ & Instructors’ Course and Sub-Officers’ Course in the most scientific and up-to-date methods of fire prevention and extinction, fire engineering, fire safety and rescue techniques and operations and handling of most modern firefighting implements. Training is also imparted on specialized topics through various short term courses like Training of Trainers, BA Set, National Building Code, HAZMAT, Disaster Management, etc.

In addition, the College renders advice on all matters relating to fire prevention, fire security and firefighting. For this purpose, the College has well-qualified, highly trained and experienced officers and staff.

In the year 1978, the College started Bachelor of Engineering course of 3.5 years duration in Fire Engineering. The constructional work of the new campus of the College started in the year 2010 at Rajnagar, Nagpur. This new campus has all the facilities required for proper training of students and fire personnel. The newly constructed campus has Administrative building, Academic building, Auditorium, Library, Workshop, Fire Station, Drill Tower, Parade Ground, Physical Training Area, Guest House and Hostel for male and female candidates. The newly constructed complex was dedicated to the nation on 2 January 2020 by the Honorable Home Minister Shri Amit Shah. In 2015, the College reintroduced B.Tech. Degree programme of 4 years in Fire Engineering affiliated to Rashtrasant Tukdoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU) as per the norms of All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) with an aim to generate technically competent Fire Engineers for the numerous fire hazards in the different prestigious organizations of the country. It is the only institution offering B.Tech. in Fire Engineering under the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India.
