NFSC Innovation Earns Indian Design Patent for Conveyor Belt Fire Safety: The National Fire Service College (NFSC), Nagpur is proud to share that an *Indian Design Patent* has been granted for a Fire-Resistance Test Apparatus for Conveyor Belts under Roller-Jamming Conditions. The patent certificate was formally handed over by *Dr. Atul Vaidya, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor* of Laxminarayan Innovation Technological University, Nagpur. The design was invented by *Prof. A. R. Sontake* from NFSC under the ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India and *Dr. Sameer M. Wagh,* Associate Professor, Laxminarayan Innovation Technological University, Nagpur. The Design Patent was granted by the Patent Office, Government of India on 06.02.2026. Design No.: 476071-001 | Application Date: 07.10.2025 The conveyor belts widely used in heavy industries and mines are typically made of rubber reinforced with nylon or cotton fibers — strong and flexible, yet vulnerable to fire due to frictional heating, roller jamming, hot work, electrical faults, and high material temperatures. Such incidents can lead to rapid fire spread, severe system damage, prolonged shutdowns, life safety risks, and major financial and environmental losses. This innovation enables more improved testing and manufacturing of fire-resistant conveyor belts, helping to reduce fire risk arising from roller-jamming conditions in conveyor operations. It marks a significant step forward in applied fire engineering and industrial safety, while strengthening operational reliability and contributing to the protection of national assets and the country’s economic growth.
